Celebrate Christmas in Machynlleth
Last Christmas might not be one Wham would sing about, but this year make it extra special with a Christmas break in Machynlleth at The Wynnstay.
It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing Christmas break and there’s no shortage of beautiful driving and walking routes to explore nearby. Whether you’re looking for a short walk to build up an appetite for Christmas dinner, or perhaps something a bit more strenuous to work off those pigs in blankets, you’re spoilt for choice.
A roughly two-mile walk starting from the clock tower will lead you to the river and take you past Royal House which is believed to be the oldest surviving building in Machynlleth.
For something a little longer, the 5.1 mile walk from Y Plas car park to Morben is a popular route, providing fantastic views across the Dyfi Valley. Highlights include the Plas Mansion and grounds which were presented as a gift to the town in 1948 by the Seventh Marquis of Londonderry. Climb the Roman steps (although it’s not certain the steps are actually Roman in origin) and see the Osprey centre, where ten years ago Ospreys were successfully bred in the Dyfi valley for the first time in over 400 years.
Christmas packages at The Wynnstay include accommodation, dinner and breakfast. A three-night stay from 24th-27th is £300 for a single room, £495 for a double or twin room, or upgrade to a superior double or twin room for £540.
Make the most of your well earned Christmas break and stay a fourth night on the 23rd or 27th Dec for an extra £15 b&b for single rooms, and £30 b&b for double or twin rooms.
Children under three stay free and children 4 to 15 years of age sharing a room with two adults are charged £100 to include meals.

Start Christmas day with a hearty cooked breakfast giving you plenty of energy for all of the festivities. Then once you’ve worked up an appetite again, sit down to enjoy a stunning Christmas dinner at 4 pm. Just reading the list of sumptuous mains on offer will have your mouth watering. Choose from Rare roast rib of Welsh champion beef, Salmon in pastry with Glandyfi sauce, Beetroot Bourguignon or Roast turkey traditionally garnished.
